The VITO BAT Knowledge Center has started a new Flemish BAT study on the capture and treatment of fumigants.

The objective of the study is to map out the various applications of fumigants and the existing and applicable treatment methods in Flanders. The study primarily focuses on fumigation with sulfuryl fluoride (SO₂F₂), but other fumigants, such as phosphines (PH₃) and cyanides (HCN or (CN)₂), are also discussed in detail. Currently, there are no specific Flemish regulations for fumigation with these substances. Therefore, the study examines how the activity of fumigation (of containers) can be classified and subsequently provides recommendations for introducing environmental conditions.

If you or your organisation is interested in joining the guidance committee for this BAT study, you are kindly requested to email bbt@vito.be, preferably by 10 May 2025.
