Final draft of the Code of Good Practice for temporary and mobile electricity supply
The final draft of the Code of Good Practice for temporary and mobile electricity supply is now available online.
This Code of Good Practice supports the selection, sizing and deployment of temporary electricity supply, primarily in the construction and events sectors. It is aimed at, among others, clients, contractors, organisers, suppliers, rental companies and public authorities. It describes the regulatory framework and compares available solutions, including grid connections, battery systems, generators, hybrid configurations, hydrogen and alternative fuels.
The choice of system starts from an analysis and optimisation of the electricity demand. Under the Grid First principle, the first step is to assess whether a grid connection is available, can be realised in time and is proportionate. Where grid power is insufficient or unavailable, supplementary or autonomous solutions are assessed. The assessment takes account of the energy profile, technical constraints, costs, environmental impact, nuisance and reliability. The depth of the assessment is scaled to the size, complexity and sensitivity to nuisance of the project. Implementation guidelines and practical examples support the execution. The code provides direction and does not itself impose new obligations.
At the request of the advisory committee, Annex 4 contains a compact decision tree, which is also available as a separate document on EMIS. This decision tree is a practical entry point to the more detailed decision framework and helps users determine which configurations to examine first in their project situation.
The members of the advisory committee and of the BAT/EMIS/EP steering group have until 30 October 2026 to approve the final draft or submit any comments. After this last consultation round, the final report, supplemented with any final comments and, where applicable, VITO's response, will be published on EMIS.
