The members of the Technical Working Group (TWG) were invited by EU-BRITE to share their views and information on the revision of the IS BREF (Iron and Steel Production) through a frontloading survey.
The activities covered by the revision are those listed in Annex I to IED 2.0:
1.3. Production of coke
2.1. Metal ore (including sulphide ore) roasting or sintering
2.2. Production of pig iron or steel (primary or secondary fusion) including continuous casting, with a capacity exceeding 2.5 tonnes per hour
Views on the scope, approach and key issues were submitted to EU-BRITE in early July and will be discussed at the kick-off meeting, which is likely to take place in December 2026. On behalf of and in cooperation with the Instruments and Programming Division (IP) of the Department of Environment, the Flemish BAT Knowledge Centre prepared the Flemish/Belgian frontloading input.
